WINGS OF THE SPIRIT
    by Catherine Lawton
    ~
    I spun my prayer of
    yearning, sighs,
    and gossamer hopes;
    And hung it by a promise
    on the strongest branch
    I could find.
    I gave myself to my prayer—
    rains, doubts, cold
    assailed.
    The darkness alone seemed real,
    but I hid
    within my prayer.
    Just when I felt lost or forgotten,
    it was time;
    faith broke through,
    the light dazzled...
    I had wings!
